Mark Hill’s Physical Theatre Creation Workshop December 2010

SDEA is delighted to welcome Mark Hill back to Singapore for a Physical Theatre Creation Workshop, November 29- December 3, 2010.

Mark is an Australian performer and teacher specializing in physical theatre. His work has taken him around the world in award winning productions and well received workshops.

The success of Mark’s Physical Theatre Creation Workshop with SDEA in October of 2009 encouraged SDEA to invite Mark back to offer another 3-day workshop on Viewpoints plus give an opportunity for participants to expand their knowledge of vocal work in Suzuki and Butoh over 2 additional days.

Viewpoints is an exciting approach to creating work developed for Theatre by Anne Bogart of the SITI Company in New York. This 3-day workshop will introduce the Viewpoints as tools for creation and take the participants through the process of applying the Viewpoints to building compositions. A follow-on 2-day workshop exploring Suzuki vocal techniques and an introduction to Butoh make up a five-day intensive workshop that will introduce various approaches to creating through physical theatre.

Participants will be able to choose the three-day workshop (Monday to Wednesday) or five-day workshop (Monday-Friday). Observers may attend Thursday and Friday’s workshop.

This first three days of the workshop is open to drama educators and theatre practitioners and is limited to 18 participants. Previous training in physical theatre is helpful but not necessary. Those in the first workshop may continue into the follow-on workshop. Attendance to the second workshop only will be based on previous experience in Viewpoints and Physical Theatre and at facilitator’s discretion.
