The current Committee for the term of 2017-2019 will end their term on 27th July, at the AGM, and a new committee will be voted in to lead SDEA for the next 2 years. This could be you.
If you believe in the advancement of the profession of the drama educator and advocating for the value and practice of drama and theatre, and want to do more, this is your chance to lead and shape the future and growth of the theatre/drama industry.
Alternatively, if you know someone you would like to represent you in the committee, nominate them (with their consent of course)!
The Nomination Process
- Download and fill in the form here.
- You can either:
- Nominate a member whom you think should be a committee member (with expressed consent).
- Stand for election yourself.
- The nominee will need to get the support of 2 backing SDEA members, as stated on the form.
- Return the completed form to firstname.lastname@example.org or in person at the SDEA office by 9th August 2019, 10am. Nominees who fail to meet the deadline will not be considered for election.
- Details of the nominees will be made available to members before the AGM, and nominees will be required to give a short 5-minute speech at the AGM prior to voting.
Can I nominate myself for the election?
You may nominate yourself, although you will still need to find 2 existing SDEA members to back you as reflected in the form.
Can I (or the person I am nominating) run for multiple positions?
Yes you may. Please state in the form which positions you would like to run for, and you will be in the running for the position if applicable. However, the nominee may only be voted in for one position (one member cannot for example, hold the position of both President and Treasurer.)
I just recently joined SDEA. Am I eligible for nomination?
Yes you are, if you are an ordinary member (and not an associate member). To qualify to stand for election to the Committee, a candidate has to be a fully paid up ordinary member of good standing with SDEA. To clarify your membership status, you may drop us an email at email@example.com.
Am I allowed to post about my nomination on social media leading up to the AGM?
Yes. You are more than welcome to post about your nomination online. However, you are not allowed to make your nomination public until it is announced first by SDEA. Remember to tag SDEA on social media where applicable.
I will be running in the election. Am I required to prepare anything leading up to the election?
Yes. Nominees will be required to address the meeting in a 5-minute speech, justifying why they are the best person for the role. You will not be required to prepare slides.
I don’t have time to ask around and look for backers to support the nomination. Can I just submit the form first?
No. The submitted form should be completed with the names of the nominee and the 2 backing members. You must get consent from all parties before the nomination is valid. You may refer to our members guide here.
Can I be a backing member for more than one person for each committee position?
Yes, you can back multiple candidates for the same committee position. Your backing is not mutually exclusive.
I am a backing member of a nominee. Will I be required to prepare anything for the AGM?
No. You (or the second backer) will however, need to fill up the 80-100 word justification on the form on why you believe in the nomination.
When will I know who the nominees are?
The list of nominees will be released at least 1 week before the AGM. Members will be notified through email, and the same information will be made available on the SDEA website.
I don’t know anyone at SDEA and don’t know if I should be voting these elections. Should I come for AGM?
Yes. As a member, you should be present for voting in the AGM, your voice counts. You can use this chance to get to know the nominees and other SDEA members, and learn how you can get more involved in the community.
I will not be in town for the AGM. Can I still vote?
No. In the spirit of fairness, you will need to be physically present at the AGM to cast a vote.
Will my vote be anonymous?
Yes. Your vote is anonymous, and will not be revealed to other members.
