Prof Jonothan Neelands

Jonothan is a National Teaching Fellow, Chair of Drama and Theatre Education and WBS Professor of Creative Education at the University of Warwick in the UK. In addition to his academic profile, he is an experienced workshop leader and drama practitioner, with a national and international reputation for delivering high quality professional training and development opportunities. He has a particular interest in teaching classic and complex literary and dramatic texts through active and empowering pedagogy.

Jonothan works in close partnership with the Royal Shakespeare Company Education and has developed and researched with them a Post Graduate Teaching Certificate in Teaching Shakespeare and its impact on students. He also runs a Post Graduate Award for RSC actors training to work in schools. He has advised government on the identification and training of talented young performers and is Research Consultant for the National Council of Drama Training and a member of the RSC Education Advisory Group.

Jonothan is the author of several texts for teachers and students, which have influenced the development of drama in recent years including Structuring Drama Work, Beginning Drama 11-14, Key Shakespeare 1 and 2 and Advanced Drama and Theatre Studies and Improving Your Primary School Through Drama.
