Makhampom

The Makhampom Theatre Group, Thailand has been called a family, a kindergarten, a university, a community, and a theatre troupe. Makhampom was born in 1980, being a social organization that works in the medium of theatre.
From inception, Makhampom has had a folk character, reflected in the sense of family, a playfulness, and a Makhampom lifestyle. As a group, generated by and generating volunteers, it has seen generation after generation of volunteer sustain the organization. Its mission was defined as to apply theatre as a community media form to create connections between different sectors, regions, and countries towards transforming Thai society and beyond.
Makhampom’s work is focused on applied theatre and contemporary Thai theatre practice to promotes social action, critical awareness, and public debate, particularly stimulating community, youth, pedagogical and environmental initiatives and transformations within Thailand and throughout the Asia-Pacific region. They are a testament of how theatre can make societal intervention, and how the arts can serve as a tool for advocacy.
Makhampom produces work with the Pang Daeng youth on a new circus theatre production, recycled puppetry, art for peace techniques, and reunion publication, alongside its regular program.
