Connections Workshop: Science and Maths through Drama
Research shows that Drama as an active pedagogy develops positive attitudes towards academic learning in a range of students. Drama stimulates the imagination, activates reasoning, makes new connections and nurtures the spirit of inquiry.

Workshop 1: Science through Drama (For Primary 3, Primary 4)
In this workshop, participants will be taken through a Primary 3 lesson that is designed to engage students in the processes of evaluation, creative problem solving and investigation using Drama. The workshop in particular, will look at animal systems and touch on environmental issues.
About Elvira Holmberg
Teaching Artist Elvira Holmberg has been with NAC’s Teaching Through the Arts programme since 2013 and over the last 25 years, she has used drama strategies to help students explore various academic subjects such as English, History, Geography and Science. She also trains students and teachers in drama and develops drama curriculum. She was an adjunct lecturer at National Institute of Education in 2013 and currently teaches part time at The School of the Arts (SOTA). Elvira is also a drama training consultant to various schools.
Workshop 2: Maths through Drama (For Primary 4, Primary 5)
Come share how the charm and flexibility of storytelling is used to entice Primary 4 and Primary 5 students and stretch their thinking when it comes to area and perimeter of composite figures.
About Peggy Ferroa
Teaching Artist Peggy Ferroa has worked with teachers of a Primary School over two years under NAC’s Teaching Through the Arts Programme using drama to teach various Math concepts. She worked and co-taught with teachers so that they could carry on confidently using drama strategies in their own classroom.
Forum: Drama in the Academic Classroom : Boon or Bane?
Join us and our panel of educators, independent artists and arts education officers from National Arts Council and Ministry of Education in exploring the various challenges and benefits of drama in an academic setting. This forum provides an excellent platform for an in-depth discussion of drama being used in various subjects.

Connections 2014 features teaching artists who were part of NAC’s Teaching Through The Arts Programme (TTAP) in 2013. They share how they worked with teachers to design classroom lessons infused with drama strategies to develop students’ capacity to infer, think logically, critically and creatively.
