Celebrate Drama!
Launched in 2005, this was SDEA’s first ever public event dedicated to sharing the benefits and diversity of drama and theatre education with everyone. This community festival features workshops, performances, dialogues, exhibitions, film screenings, and presentations and encourages participation in these diverse events. Celebrate Drama! brings together the combined efforts of teachers, artists, youths and the community who do extraordinary and wonderful work with drama. The festival programme includes ‘drama at home’ for families; ‘drama in school’ for teachers and students; and ‘drama to empower youth-at-risk, the elderly, the disadvantaged, migrant workers’ and even ‘drama for the corporate world’. This is indeed a festival for everyone to experience drama first hand!
Connections
Established in 2006, SDEA Connections started as a platform for discussion and reflection on the role of the arts, in particular, drama, within the context of educational institutions. The objectives of Connections are to generate awareness of quality practices, to highlight challenges and opportunities in developments, and to share resources with and expertise available to the artistic and education communities. It has since evolved into a platform for open dialog to help bridge various agencies, organisations and stakeholders in the education sectors in Singapore. Through Connections, SDEA seeks to understand, clarify and identify issues that can be worked on collaboratively by all relevant parties.
Theatre Arts Conference
SDEA’s inaugural Theatre Arts Conference was held in June 2011 with the aim of opening up the arena in local drama education. With the theme ‘Teach, Create, Heal, Enable’ provided a platform for local and international practitioners and academics to share their experiences, methodologies and research. This highly interactive conference was held over three days and offered diverse tracts for educators, pastoral and health care workers as well as organisations engaged in Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts
The conference was held in association with the Singapore Arts Festival and following conferences will be held hold every two years, alternating with Celebrate Drama! A programming committee is already looking into the planning of the Conference in 2013.
